Gutter cleaning in Gainesville, GA, and whatever the cleaning turns up

Most gutter trouble in Hall County gets found during a cleaning. A hanger that let go, or a buried drain packed with red clay. The gutter pros we send clear the troughs by hand, flush every downspout, and either fix what they find or put a price on it before they leave.

A white gutter on a brick ranch house packed with wet pine straw, seen along the roof edge

One gutter company for the whole run of the water

Rain that lands on a Gainesville roof has to get from the shingles to somewhere lower than your foundation. On the way it passes six places where things go wrong. A pressure washer deals with the second one. We take calls about all six.

The path of rainwater on a house A house seen from the side. Rain lands on the roof, runs into the gutter along the roof edge, drops through a downspout on the wall, and leaves through a buried drain line that ends at an outlet lower in the yard. 1. Gutter guard installation

What sits on top of the gutter, and what pine straw does to it.

  2. Gutter cleaning

The trough itself: straw, tassels and shingle grit out, by hand.

  3. Gutter repair

Hangers, corners and pitch. The parts that let a clean gutter still spill.

  4. Gutter installation

The whole run, formed in one piece in the driveway, when the old one is done.

  5. Downspout repair

Down the wall: crushed elbows, loose straps, too few downspouts for the roof.

  6. Buried drain lines

Under the yard, where red clay and roots close the pipe and nobody looks.

What a gutter cleaning in Gainesville includes

A cleaning is also the cheapest inspection your roof edge will ever get. The visit covers:

  • Troughs cleared by hand, bagged and hauled off. Nothing gets blown into the flower beds.
  • Downspout cleaning on every downspout, flushed from the top until it runs clear at the bottom.
  • The straw mats swept off the roof edge and out of the valleys, so the next storm does not refill the gutter by the weekend.
  • Hangers, corners and end caps checked along each run.
  • Photos of every run before and after, sent to your phone. You do not have to climb anything.
  • A small fix done on the spot. A bigger one priced in writing before anyone leaves.

What it costs depends mostly on how many stories are on the tall side. The ranges are on the gutter cleaning prices page.

Gutters with guards on them get cleaned too. They fill more slowly and they still fill, which is a longer story on the gutter guard installation page.

When do gutters fill up in Hall County?

Twice. The oaks drop their tassels in April while the pines dust everything yellow, and that mix sets up like felt once it gets wet. Then the leaves come down from late October into December, with the oaks finishing last. Pine straw falls in every month and falls hardest in autumn.

The best months for gutter cleaning here are late May, after the tassels and ahead of the summer thunderstorms, and December, once the oaks are bare. A house under pines alone can often go once a year. Under big oaks, plan on both.

Gainesville gets more than 50 inches of rain a year, and the summer share of it arrives in storms that can drop an inch inside an hour, which a half-full gutter cannot carry.

The downhill side of a lake house, three levels tall, with gutters and downspouts above a steep wooded lot

Two-story houses and the three-level lake side

A lot of houses around Lake Lanier are two stories from the street and three from the water. The lot falls away, the basement walks out at the back, and the gutters on that side end up 30 feet above a slope. They are also the ones under the most trees.

That is ladder work with standoffs and a second person, or it is done from the roof where the pitch allows. It is not a job for a pole from the ground. When you call, say how many levels there are on the downhill side and whether a deck is in the way. It changes who gets sent and what they bring.

Gutter cleaning near you, from Murrayville to Flowery Branch

Where a house sits in Hall County says a good deal about what is in its gutters.

In town, the streets off Green Street and along Riverside Drive sit under oaks older than the houses. Those gutters fill twice in one fall.

The brick ranches off Thompson Bridge and Browns Bridge roads were built into pine woods. Straw is the story there, along with gutters hung on long spikes that have been backing out of the fascia for decades.

The mill houses in Chicopee Village have short runs and steep little roofs, and the downspouts land wherever there was room for them.

The newer subdivisions in South Hall, around Mundy Mill and Oakwood, have young trees and builder gutters tied into buried corrugated pipe. They clog less with leaves and more at the drain.

The lake houses, north toward Murrayville and Clermont and south to Flowery Branch, are the tall ones. Lula and Chestnut Mountain are on the route as well.

Older houses with front porches under very large oak trees, fallen leaves covering the lawns and roof edges

Commercial gutter cleaning in Gainesville

Churches, the offices in the old houses along Green Street, townhome associations and the low commercial buildings on Jesse Jewell Parkway all have the same gutters a house has. They are longer, and they tend to be ignored until a ceiling tile stains.

For a building or an HOA, cleanings go on a late spring and December schedule, with one invoice and the same photos after every visit. Property managers can ask for the pro's certificate of insurance before the first one. Flat roofs with scuppers and built-in box gutters are a different job, so say which you have when you call.

Common gutter problems in Hall County

Water standing at the bottom of a downspout after every rain usually means the buried line past it is shut. What a backed-up downspout is telling you.

Pine straw does different things to an open gutter, a screen and a fine mesh. Pine straw in gutters, and what guards do about it.

The lake side of a house is slower, and it should cost more for reasons you can check. Third-story gutters on a walkout lot.

Before you book a gutter cleaning in Gainesville

What does gutter cleaning cost in Gainesville?

It follows the height of the tallest side and the feet of gutter. A one-story ranch sits at the low end and a three-level lake house at the top. Guards and buried drain lines add to it. Current gutter cleaning prices.

Are downspouts included in a gutter cleaning?

Yes, every one. Each downspout is flushed from the top with a hose until it runs clear at the bottom. If water backs up at the ground instead, the buried line past it is blocked, and you are told which one.

Do I have to be home for a gutter cleaning?

No. Leave the gate unlocked and the dog inside. The before and after photos come by text when the job is finished.

Can a handyman or a pressure washing company clean my gutters?

Either can scoop a gutter, and plenty do it well. The difference shows when something is wrong up there. A run that lost its pitch, an open corner, a hanger in soft wood or a buried drain that has closed is usually why the gutter overflowed in the first place, and fixing those is gutter work.

How often should gutters be cleaned under pine trees?

Under pines alone, once a year in December is common, with a look in late summer if the roof holds straw. Under pines and hardwoods together, plan on late May and December.

Will you clean gutters that already have guards on them?

Yes. Screens and mesh get brushed off on top, and sections come up wherever the trough underneath has filled with grit or seedlings. It takes longer than an open gutter and is priced that way.
